The 11 race formats

Each age group had multiple formats, giving residents more than one way to participate.

Adults

Men & Women, 18+

Four races, run back-to-back. Your first run quietly sets up everything that follows — your relay team and your head start in the final chase.

Race 1.1

Individual Time Trial

5K (or 3K if you prefer)

The warm-up that secretly sets up the whole day.

How it worked

  1. 1Run 5K at your own pace — or tell the referee before the start if you'd rather do 3K.
  2. 2Men and women are timed and ranked separately.
  3. 3Nobody is knocked out — every finisher gets a valid time.
  4. 4Your time decides your relay team and your head start later, so give it your honest best.

🏆 Outcome rule: This qualifying round grouped runners into Fast, Mid and Slow fields for the relay and handicap races.

🎁 Everyone gets: A recorded personal time — and a role in every race that follows.

Race 1.2

Elimination Marathon

1K loops, up to 8K

Survive the loop. Last one standing wins.

How it worked

  1. 1All 16 runners start together on a 1 km loop.
  2. 2After every loop, the last 2 runners to cross the line are out — cheer them off!
  3. 3Loops keep going until only 2 runners remain.
  4. 4Those 2 race one final loop, head-to-head, for the win.

🏆 Outcome rule: Last runner standing after the final head-to-head loop.

⭐ Bonus: Extra prizes for “last eliminated” and “most loops completed”.

🎁 Everyone gets: A participation goodie, whether you go out on loop 1 or loop 8.

Race 1.3

Balanced Mixed Relay

8K per team of 4

No superteams — every squad has a real shot.

How it worked

  1. 14 teams of 4, built from the morning's times — each team gets one fast, two mid and one steady runner, with at least one man and one woman.
  2. 2Together your team covers 8 km; faster teammates run slightly longer legs.
  3. 3Pass the wristband inside the exchange box — no wristband in hand, no running.
  4. 4The clock runs from your first runner's start to your last runner's finish.

🏆 Outcome rule: Lowest total team time. Tie? Fastest final leg takes it.

🎁 Everyone gets: A team to shout for — and a participation goodie.

Race 1.4

Handicap Chase

3K, staggered start

The great equalizer — timing decides this one, not raw speed.

How it worked

  1. 1Slower runners start first; the fastest runner starts last, at zero.
  2. 2Head starts are calculated from the morning's times so that everyone should finish together.
  3. 3No early starts — jump the cue and you're out of the running for the win.
  4. 4First across the finish line wins, no matter when they started.

🏆 Outcome rule: First to physically cross the finish line — any runner can take this one.

🎁 Everyone gets: A genuinely equal shot at winning, plus the participation goodie.

Kids

Boys & Girls, 6–12

Two races built for kids — one classic dash for the podium, and one short-loop knockout where the whole crowd cheers every round.

Race 2.1

Junior Dash

3 laps of 1K (3K)

The headline kids' race — 3 laps to glory.

How it worked

  1. 1Boys and girls start together, but are scored separately.
  2. 2Run 3 laps of the 1 km loop — friendly adult pacers run alongside.
  3. 3Top 3 boys and top 3 girls take the podium.
  4. 4Every kid who finishes gets a medal — every single one.

🏆 Outcome rule: Fastest finish time — top 3 boys and top 3 girls win podium prizes.

🎁 Everyone gets: A finisher's medal, no matter the placing.

Race 2.2

Kids Elimination Dash

300m loops

Short loops, big drama.

How it worked

  1. 1Everyone runs a short 300 m loop together, with volunteers alongside.
  2. 2After each loop, the last 2 kids are out for the round — with a cheer and a goodie waiting.
  3. 3Loops continue until just 2 kids remain.
  4. 4One final loop, head-to-head, decides the champion.

🏆 Outcome rule: Last kid standing after the final loop.

⭐ Bonus: A special “last eliminated” prize keeps the runner-up smiling.

🎁 Everyone gets: A goodie at the finish, win or not.

Teenagers

Boys & Girls, 13–17

Two races where you don't need to be the fastest to win — bring a partner for one, and get a calculated head start in the other.

Race 3.1

Teen Duo Dash

5K split between two

Bring anyone. Split it any way. Race as two.

How it worked

  1. 1Participants paired with a parent, sibling, friend or another teen; partners did not require a separate entry.
  2. 2Each pair covered 5 km, split evenly or unevenly between the two runners.
  3. 3Pairs handed over the wristband at the exchange point before the second runner set off.
  4. 4The recorded time ran from the first partner's start to the second partner's finish.

🏆 Outcome rule: Lowest total duo time — real podium, real prize.

🎁 Everyone gets: A participation goodie for every registered teen.

Race 3.2

Teen Handicap Dash

500m sprint + 3K chase

A sprint to seed it, a chase to win it.

How it worked

  1. 1First, everyone sprints 500 m — this only sets your head start, it's not the race.
  2. 2Slower sprinters start the 3 km chase first; the fastest starts last.
  3. 3No early starts — wait for your cue.
  4. 4First across the finish line wins, no matter the start order.

🏆 Outcome rule: First to cross the line in the 3K chase.

🎁 Everyone gets: Two races in one day, plus the participation goodie.

Senior Citizens

Free entry — walking pace only

The ceremonial opener of the whole day. Three 1 km walkathons, back-to-back at the opening ceremony — free to enter, walking pace only, and every finisher takes home a certificate and a goodie.

Race 4.1

Male 1km Walkathon

1 km walk

Men only — first one home takes the prize.

How it worked

  1. 11 km at walking pace — no running or jogging.
  2. 2All men start together.

🏆 Outcome rule: First man to cross the finish line.

🎁 Everyone gets: A certificate and a goodie for every finisher.

Race 4.2

Female 1km Walkathon

1 km walk

Women only — first one home takes the prize.

How it worked

  1. 11 km at walking pace — no running or jogging.
  2. 2All women start together.

🏆 Outcome rule: First woman to cross the finish line.

🎁 Everyone gets: A certificate and a goodie for every finisher.

Race 4.3

Mixed 1km Walkathon

1 km walk

Everyone together — two winners, not one.

How it worked

  1. 11 km at walking pace, all senior participants together.
  2. 2The first man and the first woman across the line are judged separately.

🏆 Outcome rule: First man AND first woman across — two prizes in one heat.

🎁 Everyone gets: A certificate and a goodie for every finisher.
